Kalib
Meet Kalib and Grandma Laurie
My name is Laurie and I am Kalib’s Grandma. I have raised Kalib since he was a baby and I am his sole provider. We met Linsey when Kalib was in kindergarten and she was his teacher. Kalib quickly took to Mrs. Mac and she to him. She knew there was something different about Kalib, but that is what she loves about him. Rather Kalib has the effects of trauma, ADHD, or Autism Spectrum Disorder, Linsey has always found the best ways to work with Kalib as a child. It never matters the label, just what Kalib needs. Due to my own struggles with trauma, trust is hard for me. Linsey understands this and respects what I need from her as an educator and as a friend. Kalib is now in 4th grade. Last year, Mrs. Mac approached me and asked how I had been. At the time I had quit my job due to not having proper daycare for Kalib. I had little money and was struggling . I am a hard worker and have never been one to be stuck at home. Linsey encouraged me to find work and she assured me she would help with Kalib. She did just that! I worked the last year as a CNA and Linsey and her family kept Kalib every other weekend and on some holidays. Kalib loves going there and Linsey’s family loves having him just as much. Linsey also found families doing service projects to help provide Christmas gifts for Kalib at Linsey’s house Christmas morning. Kalib loves Mrs. Mac like no other teacher he has had. She helps him out of episodes of anger when no one else can. She meets him where he’s at. She also helps me from time to time when he thinks I’m treating him like a slave! LOL
